Weekend Volunteers needed for duties to include gift shop attendant, answering phones, and greeting visitors. Hours of operation - 11 am to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers will assist staff person on duty and may work all or any part of the hours available. Minimum age - 16 years. Students will receive community service credit.
Weekday Volunteer Opportunities Available - Tuesday through Friday, from 10 am to 4 pm. Students will receive community service credits. BHS also conducts evening programs and special events which require volunteers to sign-in members and guests, staff the gift shop, and help program committee.
Areas of Interest
Archives - assist the Archivist in collection organization, clip historically significant stories from local newspapers, scan documents and photographs for digitization projects. Computer skills necessary.
Exhibits - assist the Curator will installations. The work is physically demanding and requires lifting and moving heavy items.
Office - assist the Office Manager with telephone requests, mailings, and filing. Research grant or funding opportunities with the staff and assist with proposals. Strong writing skills necessary.
Events - Represent BHS at off-site events with staff or trustees, assist with programs or events held at Fort Totten Park including the Totten Trot and Annual Summer Lawn Concert.
Garden - Exercise your horticultural instincts in our garden. Seasonal.
Building Repairs - minor projects such as painting.
