In Memoriam
Remembering Rose Marie Ryan-Harrison
February 26, 1936 – April 27, 2025
Former Bayside Historical Society Board Member Rose Marie Ryan Harrison passed away April 27th, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a longtime resident of Bayside, “Rosie” shared an immeasurable amount of talent, commitment and generosity to the members of our Black community. Her participation as a contributing committee member resulted in one of the Society’s most successful and memorable exhibits, "Bayside Was a Wilderness Then, Voices from Bayside’s Black Community". Rosie saw the relevance of the relationship of one generation’s contributions to the next. Collecting information and artifacts to highlight the life of another Black Bayside resident. Clark Terry, famous swing and beebop trumpeter, was another favorite project. Her enthusiasm to reach out and interview elderly Bayside residents was unmatched and those interviews remain as valuable additions to the Society’s archives. She will always be remembered for her love of local history and for her devotion to her family, childhood neighborhood, school, church and friends. She graced us with her smile, intelligence, and her willingness to enrich us all. We will remain inspired by her example.
