BHS observes its annual tradition of laying a wreath upon the stone memorial at Dermody Triangle for the Memorial Day holiday. Members of the BHS Board of Trustees and the Bayside Hills Civic Association will gather in a brief ceremony to honor one of Bayside's greatest heroes. Captain William C. Dermody was a Baysider and a dedicated, outspoken abolitionist who was mortally wounded in the Civil War on May 12, 1864, during the battle of Spotsylvania in Virginia.
