The Bayside Historical Society welcomes back the Ensemble Yeon for an uplifting Passport Concert that traces the voices of immigrants across continents and centuries. From early American settlers to European composers who found a new home in America, and from exiled artists to contemporary reflections of Korean migration, the concert explores how displacement and belonging have shaped music. Each set highlights the resilience, hope, and cultural blending that define immigrant stories, culminating with musical selections from beloved Latin American composers.
The Concert Program:
I. Sounds from Appalachia: Old American Songs arranged by Aaron Copland
II. From the New World: Largo from Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvořák
III. Exile and Expression: The Songs of Kurt Weill
IV. Echoes from Korea: Sanggeun Choi’s Songs of Memory and Migration
V. Cherished Voices of Latin America: Songs by Carlos Guastavino, Manuel Ponce, and Ernesto Lecuona
The Ensemble YEON features:
Soprano: Yu Jung Bae
Piano: Minji Kwon
Oboe: Courtney Miller
Composer: Sanggeun Choi
