Bayside Historical Society welcomes violinists Trina Basu and Arun Ramamurthy to the Castle for a stirringly beautiful live performance. Husband and wife duo Trina and Arun reimagine the potential of string chamber music with a unique sound both deeply intimate and cinematically expansive. Deeply rooted in traditions of South Indian classical music, Western chamber music, jazz and folk styles, the duo creates a sound that feels ancient, orchestral, and contemporary or as The New Yorker put it, “free-flowing and globe-spanning.” Combined with the duo's fluency in improvisation, there is a clear architecture to their sound that still gives space for the two violins to be delightfully indiscernible and shine individually. On their transformative debut album Nakshatra (SPINSTER 2023), Trina and Arun reach both deep into their past and high into the celestial realm, culminating in a lush and spiritual collaboration that bridges traditions and defies genres.
About the Artists: As a duo, Trina Basu and Arun Ramamurthy have been artists-in-residence at Avaloch Farm Music Institute and Next Stage Arts Project, present educational workshops and have performed at Ragas Live Festival, The Jazz Gallery, Bang on a Can, Benque Cultural Center, Sri Ramanjaneya Sangeetha Sabha, Lyric Chamber Society of NY and Perelman Performing Arts Center. They have two children and live in Brooklyn, NY.
This event is part of Bayside Historical Society's "Passport Concert Series: Bringing Cultures from Around the World to the Castle at Bayside." Music is culture expressed through sound. Travel with us to faraway lands to experience the beauty and passion of the music that is our universal language. Keep checking our website for our ongoing concert schedule!
