Open Sew at the Castle

Cost: $8 BHS members; $10 non-members

Time: 1:00pm to 4:00pm 

Do you quilt, sew or just love textiles? Join other sewing enthusiasts in an afternoon of creating and socializing. Bring something you are currently working on and enjoy the camaraderie of community sewing! While this is not a sewing class, beginner seamstresses and quilters are most welcome and will find inspiration and guidance. There are a limited number of sewing machines available, but please try to bring your own if you have one. Also, do not feel obligated to sew on a machine — hand work (cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, etc.) is always welcome!

Annual Holiday Dinner Party

Cost: $75.00 per person for BHS members; $85.00 for non-members

Time: 6:00pm to 10:00pm

Join us at the Castle for our annual celebration of the winter holidays! Cocktails, dining, dancing, and music, plus raffles and 50/50. Get the details about the dinner menu and purchase your tickets on our Website. Reservations required. RSVP by December 3, 2018.

Holiday Cookies & Crafts

Cost: $5 per child/$15 maximum per family

Time: 12:00pm to 2:00pm

Join us at the Castle for this walk-in workshop. Families are invited to craft delightful decorations celebrating the winter season. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served, and Santa will be making an appearance!

Bayside Stories — Then and Now

Join us for a walk back in time as we browse through archival material such as photos, slides, and maps of places in and around town. Compare pictures from the past with those familiar with us today and enjoy sharing reminiscences with fellow Baysiders.

Decorate the Castle for the Holidays

We're decking the halls, trimming the tree, and welcoming volunteers who'd like to lend a hand! Come join in the fun and get in the holiday spirit as we beautify the Castle for the winter festivities. Cookies and cocoa for all!

Lawrence Cemetery Tour — EVENT CANCELLED

Cost: FREE

Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Visit this NYC Landmark and final resting place of the city's first popularly elected mayor, Cornelius Van Wyck Lawrence, and other descendants of one of Bayside's founding families. History will come alive as we recount the stories of different members of the Lawrence family. Please note: This tour will require walking on uneven ground and there are no restrooms on site.

17th Annual Totten Trot 5K Foot Race & Kids Fun Run

October 28, 2018

Entry Fee: $25 until September 1; $30 until October 13; $35 until October 27; $40 on race day

Time:

7:30am: Registration begins 
9:00am: 5K Foot Race & Walk 
10:00am: Kids' Fun Run

Waterfront course through historic Fort Totten and along Little Bay Park to the Throgs Neck Bridge. "Kids Fun Run:" Short distance sprint for tiny tots & kids up to 12 years.

Open House New York

BHS will be participating on Sunday in the Open House New York Weekend, a five-borough-wide free event that celebrates architecture and design. Our staff will be on hand to give tours and talk about our beautiful building and its history.

4th Annual Independence Day Celebration

Bayside Historical Society is hosting an Independence Day Celebration with a free concert and fireworks display by Grucci in Fort Totten Park sponsored by Councilmember Paul A. Vallone, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, and Dime Community Bank. Food vendors will be on site.

Family Fun Day — EVENT CANCELLED

The Friends of Fort Totten Parks will be sponsoring a fun afternoon of free activities including games, crafts, medical screening, pet microchipping, demonstrations and more. Bring the whole family, and be sure to visit BHS's table!

Planting Day at the Castle

Thanks to our Earth Day volunteers, the Castle grounds have been weeded, raked, and cleared. Now it's time to beautify our gardens with new flowers and plants. Come join us for a day of planting — all levels of gardening expertise welcome!

Earth Day Spring Clean-Up at the Castle

Help BHS celebrate Earth Day by making our garden beautiful again! We'll be clearing out last year's weeds and old plants, and refreshing the beds with new flowers and plants.

Murder Mystery Dinner

Cost: $75.00 for BHS members; $80.00 for non-members

Time: 7:00pm to 10:00pm

Join us for a dangerously delicious dinner! Our Murder Mystery evening will feature live actors and audience participation to solve a “whodunnit.” The menu will include appetizers, main course, dessert, and wine. BHS Annual Membership Meeting

Election of BHS Board of Trustees and Installation Ceremony. The Bayside Glee Club will be performing a medley of Irish and other songs; we'll also be featuring Irish step dancers and serving Irish refreshments.

BHS 17th Annual Winter Art Show

January 14, 2018

Cost: Free for BHS members; $5 non-members

Our annual Winter Art Show features contemporary Queens artists working in all media. All artists are welcome! The registration deadline is Friday, January 5, 2018. Artists may exhibit up to two works. Find out how to submit your artwork at the link below!

​The opening reception will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 2:00pm; there will be an awards ceremony and gallery talk, and light refreshments will be served.

 

The art show will be on view through Sunday, January 28, 2018. Exhibit hours will be Thursday-Friday, 10:00am-4:00pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 12:00-4:00pm.
