Decorate the Castle for the Holidays

Bayside Historical Society unveils the decorated Castle! The Christmas tree looks amazing, and we hope that the light that shines from our tree in the window will light the way to a happier new year for us all. Bayside Historical Society wants to thank the Key Club of Bayside High School and their Moderator Steve Jacoby for decorating the Christmas tree and lighting the menorah in the Castle. Special thanks to the family of Carol Marian for assembling the tree.

Do you quilt, sew or just love textiles? Join other sewing enthusiasts in an afternoon of creating and socializing. Bring something you are currently working on and enjoy the camaraderie of community sewing! While this is not a sewing class, beginner seamstresses and quilters are most welcome and will find inspiration and guidance. There are a limited number of sewing machines available, but please try to bring your own if you have one. Also, do not feel obligated to sew on a machine — hand work (cross-stitch, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, etc.) is always welcome!

Ride back in time with Bayside Historical Society's classic car show! A variety of vintage and antique automobiles will be showcased on the lawn of the Castle at Fort Totten.

The car show is presented by the Long Island Sound Region of the Classic Car Club of America, in conjunction with Bayside Historical Society.

Our annual Totten Trot 5K Foot Race & Kids' Fun Run is back live and in person at Fort Totten Park — just in time for our 20th year! The 5K is a waterfront course through historic Fort Totten and along Little Bay Park to the Throgs Neck Bridge; the Kids' Fun Run is a short-distance sprint for tiny tots & kids up to 12 years. 

 

PLUS: This year's Totten Trot will feature a special guest appearance by the 501st Legion’s Empire City Garrison, a worldwide Star Wars costuming organization!

In our annual tradition, BHS laid a wreath upon the stone memorial at Dermody Triangle for the Memorial Day holiday. Members of the BHS Board of Trustees and the Bayside Hills Civic Association gathered in a brief but poignant ceremony to honor one of Bayside's greatest heroes. Captain William C. Dermody was a Baysider and a dedicated, outspoken abolitionist who was mortally wounded in the Civil War on May 12, 1864, during the battle of Spotsylvania in Virginia.

Step into Queens is a joined effort among Bayside Historical Society, King Manor Museum, Greater Ridgewood Historical Society, Queens Historical Society, and the Poppenhusen Institute!

20th Annual Winter Art Show

Bayside Historical Society's annual Winter Art Show features contemporary Queens artists working in all media. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the 2021 show will be a virtual event: For the entire month of February 2021, artists' works will be exhibited in virtual galleries on our website. DATES NOW EXTENDED TO MARCH 10, 2021.

 

Selections from Bayside Historical Society's 20th Annual Winter Art Show will be on display at the Bay Terrace Shopping Center from February 23 until March 10. Swing by to view the beautiful creations of local artists who reside, work or study in Queens.
